Grandma's Pumpkin Patch

The last couple of posts contained images from Grandma’s Pumpkin Patch, a local pumpkin patch in Midland, MI that contains a corn maze, inflatable attractions, farm animals and lots of pumpkins.

Reason number 5,233 to love October is the autumn harvest.

The colors, the textures and the smells are simply intoxicating.

As Seen On CNN

Spent the afternoon with my youngest son visiting Grandma’s Pumpkin Patch here in Midland, MI, a local farm that hosts a variety of activities geared toward younger children.

We have visited Grandma’s for the last several years and one of the biggest draws is the corn maze which this year got some attention on CNN because the maze is a likeness of Robin Meade, the host of CNN Headline News morning show called “Morning Express.”

There was a lot to see and do; this establishment gets two thumbs up for reasonable prices and an obvious amount of enthusiasm for the season.

Good going Grandma and great marketing strategy getting your attraction mentioned on CNN.

Unpacking and Prepping Continued

Pulled the remaining materials from the garage needed for our display set up.

More crates, lanterns and supports, the structural items and set dressings needed to make everything come together.

Not exactly the most exciting post but necessary preproduction, the good news is that I’m ahead of the game.

Last year I did not have this done until the night before set-up, a good sign for this year.

Some More Color

We have had some unbelievably beautiful autumn weather this past week, sunshine, warm days, chilly nights (freeze warnings) and the bluest skies I’ve seen in some time.

This morning the air is crisp, the sunshine warm and the sky….the sky is a clean shade of blue creating the perfect backdrop for some trees that line our driveway.

A Warm Fuzzy Glow

How do I light my papier mache pumpkins?

This is a question I get asked over and over and the answer is simple and low tech.

The pumpkins are lit with Christmas tree light bulbs, the pumpkins sit on top of clear, white, orange or red bulbs.

The lights are bright enough to illuminate the interior of the pumpkins (which are painted yellow or orange) and using red or orange bulbs help intensify the color.

Look What I SAW

My youngest son has a thing for really creepy costumes, last year he chose a hideous baby mask and this year wanted only to go as the puppet from the SAW movies.

Picked up the mask from Halloween City along with the red bow tie and got the jacket and shirt from Goodwill.

The effect really creeps me out, now he thinks he needs a tricycle to motor around on…yeah that’s what we need, a tricycle.
