The Count

This past weekend at Great Lakes FrightFest I received a great surprise when Jeff Willaert from Frighteners Entertainment presented me with “The Count”, the first place prize from the 2010 HauntForum $20 Prop Challenge.

This prop is large, has amazing detail and both eyes glow red and appear to follow you wherever you go.

Thanks Jeff for the wonderful prize and thanks again to HauntForum for the fun contest.

Bonewart-The Papier Mache Dragon

Wow it’s June already, how did that happen. I have been busy the last month wrapping up the school year and working on a variety of different projects for Great Lakes FrightFest which happened last weekend. GLFF was a tremendous amount of fun and I have more to share but first here are some shots of a very cool 26 foot long articulated papier mache dragon named “Bonewart” created by Jacob Sinacola.

Construction photos and details can be found here.

Punk'd

I’m a big fan of Steampunk, total eye candy for a geek like myself and somehow I stumbled onto a Wikipedia article about Cyberpunk derivatives.

Derivatives?

Have you heard of Dieselpunk?

Or Biopunk?

What about Clockpunk?

Here’s a link to an informative article about a variety of genres that really get your imagination flowing,

I’m all punky just thinking about it.

Thought you needed to know.

A Big Thank You

Thank you to everyone that commented and supported the creation of Buster Gravesley, my entry into the HauntForum 2010 $20 Prop Challenge.

Buster clawed his way to victory after a week long battle for the top spot and I must say that it was a thrill and an honor to compete along side such top caliber props.

Thank you to HauntForum and Zombie-F for hosting the challenge and to all the sponsors that donated prizes.

Finally I would like to thank the HauntForum members that cast votes and those that submitted entries into the contest.

Keep building!

Neck and Neck and Neck

The voting for the $20 HauntForum Prop Challenge is in full swing and the voting is fast and furious with the top three contenders battling it out for first place.

There are a lot of great entries this year including many papier mache projects and several animated pieces which is amazing considering the $20 budget constraint.

The voting ends this Saturday evening and if you get the chance please stop by and cast your vote for your favorite prop.

You must be HauntForum member and have at least 10 posts to vote.

Voting Thread Here.

Carving Apple Heads

Making shrunken apple heads is a lot of fun and carving the simple faces on the apples really does help develop your sculpting and three dimensional skills.

Here are some nice close up photos showing the freshly carved apples prior to drying.

Information on how I make my shrunken heads can be found here.

Dunninger’s Complete Encyclopedia of Magic

Another recent thrift store find was Dunninger’s Complete Encyclopedia Of Magic, a hard cover book published in 1988 featuring illustrations and details of several hundred magic tricks and illusions.

The illustrations struck a chord with me and thumbing through the pages I saw several tricks that could potentially be used in the world of haunting.

The book is still available from Amazon.
